Recaps of the Vampire Academy panel at NYCC (October 11th)

During the Vampire Academy panel at NYCC which featured Zoey Deutch, Lucy Fry, Sami Gayle, Dominic Sherwood, Mark Waters and Dan Waters, several reporters were present to write up what went on during the panel.

NYCC

Hypable’s Recap

Zoey found that fans had a different concern about her playing Rose. “The fans were really upset that I didn’t have big boobs. People were generally concerned that I wasn’t curvy enough but I’ll have them know we sorted the situation out.” Sami also found people were concerned about her appearance, telling us, “I think for me Mia’s character has blonde ringlets and blue eyes, and for me I don’t have blonde ringlets and blue eyes. But I think once the poster came out and people saw me as Mia we had a pretty positive reaction.”

Lucy Fry definitely seemed to understand the plight of the adoring fan. “I know what it is like when you read a book and you get a really specific idea in your head of what that character is going to look like and everyone’s idea is going to be different,” she said. “It is really hard to let that go but eventually the actor becomes the character in your head. It is always hard at first to let the actor take over the character you’ve pictured.”

ComingSoon.net’s Recap

Even though there were still multiple actresses in play for both roles at that point, Deutch already started playing the part of Fry’s guardian. Deutch recalled, “I actually drove Lucy home from the audition … Lucy, if you know LA, the beautiful Lucy Fry with blonde hair, blue eyes, sweet, loving, funny, she was gonna either walk or take a bus that she didn’t know the route … and I was like, ‘I don’t think so.'”

Giving Fry a ride home is one thing; making an audience believe you possess the physical strength and ability to protect a Moroi from a Strigoi is another story. “I did gym training, fight training, and stunt choreography.” Deutch further explained, “In terms of gym training it was a lot of building muscle and drinking these repulsive protein shakes, which I really don’t recommend having four a day.”
